Behind the Brand with Liora Manné

“Behind the Brand” shares the stories behind the brands we love at 200 Lex by showcasing the women who make them what they are today. Let’s take a look at Liora Manné!

While finishing her master’s degree in textile design and textile engineering, Liora liked to explore what she could create with machines, which prompted her to take engineering classes. After college, she landed her first job in New York in the apparel industry. She created a knotted, brushed fabric with metallic that everyone loved. Her next major hit was three-dimensional puff prints on textiles like fleece, produced domestically. People waited in line to buy apparel made with her puff prints, and she even produced material for fashion designer Todd Oldham. Recognizing Liora’s talent, a printer from New Jersey said if you ever want to go into business for yourself, I would like to be your partner – and Lamontage® was born.

After initially being rejected by ABC Carpet, they changed their mind. Evan, the son-in-law (at that time) liked the product and gave Lamontage® a chance. It sold well and made waves at a large retailer in Chicago.

Then there was the creation of the REvolution Collection, a 100% recycled collection, as well as custom wall coverings at the new David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center. Using sustainable technologies, Liora turns recycled athletic wear into rugs, wall/ceiling coverings, and upholstery for Nike. These projects are a testament to the extensive capabilities of Lamontage® and its ability to create an immersive environment, no matter the application.

Being at 200 Lex has helped us form deeper relationships with interior designers. By hosting studio visits, we give designers an unparalleled firsthand experience with our custom capabilities. Liora Manne is one of the few, or perhaps the only, brands that creates products in their showroom at 200 Lex.

Where will the brand be in 5/10 years?

Liora Manné and her team of skilled designers will continue to explore additional fibers and re-enter into apparel at the couture level. Fashion runways can showcase the artistic expression of what can be done with Lamontage®.

What do you want people to know about the brand that they may not?

Endless possibilities! Our capacity for customization allows designers to express a particular vision. Colors and fibers are hand-selected and hand-punched, offering total control of the end product.
